How To be more secure on Twitter

How To be more secure on Twitter

These quick ways can really help you better secure your Twitter account. How secTwitter is becoming as much as a mainstay in our society as Facebook, and it seems that every day a news outlet is reporting breaking news from a tweet that was sent through the inter-webs. Here are three ways to be more secure on twitter:

Set your account to use HTTPS at all times. You can ensure that all of your tweets are encrypted when sent through the Internet to add another layer of security to your Twitter experience. With HTTPS you will have protection similar to when you are purchasing items on the Internet while you navigate Twitter. Here’s how to do it:

1 - Log on to Twitter and go to the upper right hand side where it displays your Twitter handle
2 - Click on the drop down and select “Settings”
3 - Scroll down to “HTTPS Only” and select “Always use HTTPS”.
4 - Click on the Save Button

Protect your tweets. If you use Twitter only to talk to friends, I would recommend protecting your tweets. When you protect your tweets only the people you approve can see your tweets and your tweets will not be archived in the Library of Congress. Here’s how to do it:

1 - Log on to Twitter and go to the upper right hand side where it displays your Twitter handle.
2 - Click on the drop down and select “Settings”
3 - Scroll down to “Tweet Privacy” and select “Protect my tweets”.
4 - Click on the Save Button

Monitor your third party applications. There are several web and desktop applications that integrate to Twitter. Sometimes you may come across so many Twitter log-in pages that you forget the applications that you have previously given permission to access your Twitter account. Fortunately Twitter maintains a list of those applications and gives you an easy way of revoking access if you do not use those applications anymore. Here’s how to do it:

1 - Log on to Twitter and go to the upper right hand side where it displays your Twitter handle.
2 - Click on the drop down and select “Settings”
3 - Click on the “Applications” Tag
4 - Look through the list of applications for any applications that you are not using or don’t recognize. You simply click on the “Revoke Access” to disconnect your account to that application

Sure is your Twitter account? Sound off in the comments!
